Coughing Cat Meme
Coughing Cat is the pale cream cat sitting by a wooden staircase with its eyes stretched wide and its mouth hanging open, a pink tongue sticking out as if it is mid-cough or gagging. The photo is cropped close, so the shocked face fills most of the frame. This template gives you a top and bottom caption so you can decide what made the cat react like that.
What does the Coughing Cat meme mean?
The original joke is about small children. When the picture went viral, people said the cat's face looked exactly like the way little kids cough: eyes wide open, mouth wide, tongue out, with no attempt to cover anything. Parents and older siblings answered with photos of real kids pulling the same face. Since then the image has also turned into a general reaction for disgust, disbelief or choking on something, whether that is a terrible opinion, a gross smell or a shocking price. The exaggerated face makes any caption feel a little more dramatic.
