Laughing Cat Meme
Laughing Cat is the blurry orange cat with its ears back and mouth wide open, looking like it's laughing uncontrollably. Use this template to caption whatever made you cackle and download the meme.
What does the Laughing Cat meme mean?
Laughing Cat is a reaction to something you find hilarious — often at someone else's expense, in a friendly way. The caption names the funny thing (a friend's fail, a ridiculous text, an awkward moment) and the cat's wide-open mouth shows you losing it. It can also mean "I can't breathe" levels of laughing. Because the cat looks a little unhinged, it suits jokes that are more chaotic than polite.
Where is the Laughing Cat meme from?
The image comes from a TikTok clip posted on December 20, 2020 by the account catsajack, showing an orange cat shaking with its ears back and mouth wide open. The cat probably wasn't laughing at all, but it looked that way. The laughing audio that made it a meme came later: Know Your Meme traces it to a YouTube meme review from March 2024, and in April 2024 a TikTok user paired the cat with that laugh for the first known time. A GIF version uploaded to Tenor the same month became a common reaction. The format grew through 2024 and had its largest wave on TikTok in late 2025 and early 2026, including green-screen edits.
Laughing Cat meme caption ideas

Tips
- Put the caption on top so the cat's open mouth stays visible.
- Write it as "Me when…" or "Me watching…" — it's a self-reaction.
- Keep the mood friendly: the joke is that it's funny, not that someone deserves it.
