The closed-then-open mouth reads as a single sound: pop. Where is the Pop Cat meme from?

Know Your Meme reports that Twitter user @XavierBFB shared two pictures of his cat, Oatmeal, in a Discord server: a normal photo and an edit with the mouth stretched into an O. On October 9, 2020, a friend posting as Skettidragon put an edit of those pictures on Reddit's r/MEOW_IRL. The next day, October 10, 2020, Twitter user @partitiongal reposted the pair, and that tweet collected more than 161,000 likes. Within days the images were turned into GIFs on Tenor, and by mid-October 2020 people were making lip-sync edits of the cat "singing" songs. In August 2021 the clicker site Popcat.click, where each click makes the cat pop, went viral as players from Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand raced their countries up a global leaderboard.
