You Have No Power Here Meme
You Have No Power Here is the frame of King Théoden, white-haired and pale, laughing from his throne in The Two Towers. Write who's trying to boss you around and dismiss them in style, then download the meme.
What does the You Have No Power Here meme mean?
The line is a cocky dismissal: whatever authority someone thinks they have, it doesn't apply here. Online it's used when a rule, threat or person has no say over you in a given place: a work email on your day off, a younger sibling threatening to tell, a diet at a birthday party, or an alarm clock on a Saturday. Because Théoden is cackling while saying it, the meme carries a smug, slightly villainous energy that makes it fun for small acts of rebellion.
Where is the You Have No Power Here meme from?
The quote comes from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the 2002 Peter Jackson film. Know Your Meme says the line is spoken by King Théoden while he is under a spell, reacting to Gandalf's first attempt to free him. It also notes an older film use of the phrase in The Wizard of Oz (1939), when Glinda drives away the Wicked Witch of the West. An image macro of Théoden was submitted to Meme Generator on December 5, 2012, and in February 2013 a post on r/AdviceAnimals pairing the line with photos gained more than 4,600 upvotes. A Facebook page named after the phrase launched that March.
