OIIA Cat Meme
The OIIA cat is the grey tabby that spins endlessly to the high-pitched “Oo ee a e a” sound in viral TikTok and Bilibili edits. This still template lets you caption the cat with your own chaotic moment and download it free in your browser.
What does the OIIA Cat meme mean?
The OIIA cat represents chaotic, uncontrollable energy. In video form the cat spins nonstop while the sound loops, which is why it's used for racing thoughts, sugar highs, overstimulation, and moods that spiral out of control. As a still template, the joke lives in the caption: the top describes the situation (“My brain at 3 a.m.”), and the bottom is usually the sound itself, “OIIA OIIA,” as if that's the only noise your mind can make. The cat's blank, straight-ahead stare sells the feeling of being completely overwhelmed.
Where is the OIIA Cat meme from?
The OIIA cat comes from a photo of a short-legged grey tabby standing on a rug. According to Know Your Meme, which corresponded with the owner, the cat is a rescue named Ethel, and the photo was first shared in a Facebook cat group in January 2019. In April 2023, a Bilibili user posted an edit that spins the cat to a remix of the “Oo ee a e a” sound effect, and copies reached YouTube within weeks. The format had a second, bigger life in December 2024, when TikTok remixes set the spinning cat to popular songs and racked up millions of views. Fans now simply call it the OIIA or “oiiaoiia” cat.

- Pick situations involving spinning, looping, or racing thoughts, since they match the meme's origin.
- Because this is a still image, words about motion (“spinning,” “on repeat”) help it read as the spinning cat.
