Nyan Cat Meme
Nyan Cat is the pixel-art cat with a Pop-Tart body that flies through space leaving a rainbow trail, one of the defining viral videos of 2011. Here you can caption the classic image and download your meme free, right in your browser.
What does the Nyan Cat meme mean?
Nyan Cat is pure joyful nonsense. A cat with a toaster-pastry body zooms through space trailing a rainbow, with no story and no explanation. That's why it's used for hyperactive energy, sugar rushes, great moods, and fond nostalgia for the early-2010s internet. On this template, the top caption usually starts a sentence and the bottom finishes it, so the flying cat becomes you speeding through the moment: “Me after / one energy drink.” Jokes about speed, rainbows, and happiness fit best.
Where is the Nyan Cat meme from?
Nyan Cat was created by Christopher Torres, an artist known online as prguitarman, who posted the animated GIF on his LOL-Comics site on April 2, 2011. The idea came from a livestream where viewers suggested he draw a Pop-Tart and a cat, and the cat was based on his own pet, Marty. On April 5, 2011, YouTube user saraj00n paired the animation with a cover of the Japanese song “Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!”, originally made by daniwell with the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku, and titled the video “Nyan Cat.” It went viral that year. In February 2021, Torres sold a remastered version as an NFT for 300 ether, about $587,000 at the time.
