What does the I'm Tired of This, Grandpa meme mean?
The format captures being made to do something tedious by someone who has zero interest in your complaints. In the scene, the girl complains and the grandfather simply tells her to keep at it. People reuse it for chores, grinding in video games, work routines, or any task a parent, boss or partner keeps assigning. The top frame voices the complaint; the bottom frame is the authority figure brushing it off. It reads as playful frustration rather than real anger, which is why it shows up a lot in relationship and family jokes.
Where is the I'm Tired of This, Grandpa meme from?
The scene is from Holes, the film released on April 11, 2003. It shows young Louise Walker digging alongside her grandfather, Charles "Trout" Walker. A YouTube channel uploaded the clip on June 13, 2012, and it passed a million views. Know Your Meme traces the first meme version to August 9, 2022, when Reddit user u/DeekiNeedles used two frames of the scene to joke about repetitive runs in the game Escape From Tarkov. The format stayed mostly image-based until March 9, 2023, when TikToker gziltchi posted the full scene, bringing the audio to TikTok; by July 2024 it had been used in more than 27,500 videos, often in skits about someone being dragged into a partner's plans.

Tips
- Keep the complaint short and whiny on top; the bottom works best as an unbothered reply or a label for the person who won't let you stop.
- Grinding, chores and long shopping trips are the natural fit, because the scene is literally about digging forever.
- The frames are tall, so place captions in the sky and dirt areas instead of across the faces.
