What does the Tuxedo Winnie the Pooh meme mean?

Tuxedo Winnie the Pooh is a basic-versus-fancy comparison. The top panel, with ordinary Pooh, gets the plain, everyday way of saying something; the bottom panel, with tuxedo Pooh, gets a fancier, more technical, or more pretentious version of the exact same thing. The joke is that nothing actually changes except the wording. It's perfect for jargon, euphemisms, rebrands, and “sophisticated” takes on very normal habits. Unlike formats where one side is clearly better, the fancy version is usually being gently teased.

Where is the Tuxedo Winnie the Pooh meme from?

The base image is from Disney's 1974 featurette Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too, in which Pooh sits in an armchair during a meeting at Rabbit's house; the featurette was later included in the 1977 film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. According to Know Your Meme, the plain armchair frame circulated on 4chan as a reaction image from at least 2013, and an anonymous user made the edit that puts Pooh in a tuxedo with a smug, refined expression. The two-panel pairing broke into the mainstream in March 2019, when a “fellow man of culture” version on r/me_irl and a cropped version on r/dankmemes each drew tens of thousands of upvotes.
