What does the Grumpy Cat meme mean?
Grumpy Cat captions are short, pessimistic and sarcastic. Usually the top sets up something cheerful — a party, Monday, a fun suggestion — and the bottom shuts it down, often with a flat "No." She's the voice of anyone who's not in the mood. The joke is the contrast between her tiny, fluffy body and her total refusal to be impressed.
Where is the Grumpy Cat meme from?
Grumpy Cat's real name was Tardar Sauce, a cat owned by Tabatha Bundesen of Morristown, Arizona, and born in April 2012. Her frowning look came from an underbite and feline dwarfism. In September 2012, Bundesen's brother Bryan posted her photos on Reddit, where they reached the front page within a day and were quickly turned into hundreds of image macros. Grumpy Cat became a brand of her own, with a 2013 book, Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book, a film deal and many public appearances. She died in May 2019 at age seven after complications from a urinary tract infection, and her photos remain common reaction images.
