What does the Absolute Cinema meme mean?

Absolute Cinema is pure approval. You post it after something so dramatic, perfectly timed or well made that it feels like a scene from a great film: a last-second goal, a plot twist, a perfectly executed prank, even a cat landing a jump. Usually the context comes from the post you're replying to, and the image itself just says ABSOLUTE CINEMA across the bottom. Used ironically, it praises something very ordinary as if it were art.

Where is the Absolute Cinema meme from?

The photo shows Martin Scorsese with his hands raised and appeared alongside a New York Times interview with the director published in January 2020. The "Absolute Cinema" caption came later: Know Your Meme traces it to an X post from December 1, 2022 that paired the photo with a clip from the anime Chainsaw Man. Through 2023, X users posted the image as a reaction to film scenes, sports plays, games and anime moments they considered excellent, and it also spawned "kino is served" jokes. People began editing other characters into the pose, making it a flexible template. The phrase plays on Scorsese's reputation and his well-known comments about what counts as cinema.

Add a short setup line on top if you're posting it on its own rather than as a reply.
It works best in black and white — avoid colored text.
